Here is a look at the Holland Sentinel All-Area Boys Golf Team, led by the player of the year.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Will Nagelvoort

SCHOOL: West Ottawa

GRADE: Senior

ON THE LINKS: Averaged 36 strokes per nine holes. Won the OK Red Conference season medalists. Took sixth at regionals and tied for seventh at the Division 1 state tournament. At state, shot a 72-73-145 to lead all area golfers at state finals.

COACH’S VIEW: “Will placed in the top 10 in every event for the 2026 season, except for one,” West Ottawa coach Reid Murphy said.

ALL-AREA FIRST TEAM

Mike Fuller

SCHOOL: Zeeland West

GRADE: Senior

ON THE LINKS: Averaged 40 per nine. Was eighth in OK Black.

COACH’S VIEW: “Mike had a great senior season. He was named to the OK Black all-conference team and improved his overall 9-hole average by three strokes. This improvement shows the dedication he put into being better. A true student of the game, Mike continued to seek ways to grow and improve throughout the season.” – Tim Minnear

Mike Girman

SCHOOL: Zeeland West

GRADE: Junior

ON THE LINKS: Averaged 38 per nine. Was second in OK Black standings and 16th at regionals.

COACH’S VIEW: “Mike had a great season.  He was named OK Black All-Conference and finished 2nd in the conference in his average. He also set the new 9-hole school record at Crestview with a three-under-par 33. Played number one for the entire season and, more importantly, represented Zeeland West well throughout.” – Tim Minnear

Sam Howell

SCHOOL: Holland

GRADE: Freshman

ON THE LINKS: Averaged 39 per nine. Took ninth in OK Black and fifth at D2 regionals to lead Holland to state for the first time since 2003.

COACH’S VIEW: “A freshman already playing like a varsity veteran — top-10 at conference and fitth at regionals with a 76, out-finishing players years older. A sub-40 average as a 9th grader points to a very high ceiling ahead.” – Jason Voss

Andrew Legg

SCHOOL: Holland

GRADE: Senior

ON THE LINKS: Averaged 39 per nine. Took seventh in OK Black and third at D2 regionals to lead Holland to state for the first time since 2003.

COACH’S VIEW: “A senior leader who saved his best for the biggest stage — a third-place regional finish on a 73 to close out his career. Steady all year with a sub-39.2 nine-hole average and the anchor of the program in his final season.” – Jason Voss

Preston Logan

SCHOOL: Holland

GRADE: Senior

ON THE LINKS: Averaged 40 per nine. Took 17th in OK Black Conference and helped the Dutch compete at state for the first time since 2003.

COACH’S VIEW: ” A four-year senior who competed hard all season and broke 40 on average, bringing experience and steady leadership to the lineup down the stretch.” – Jason Voss

Nick Mohr

SCHOOL: Saugatuck

GRADE: Senior

ON THE LINKS: Averaged 39 strokes per nine. Finished fifth at the SAC finals and 16th at regionals, just missing state.

COACH’S VIEW: “Nick has been a four-year Varsity player for us and over the last two years has been one of our consistent scorers. When he gets things going, he finds a zone and is one of our best players. The tough thing throughout the season was finding that zone and keeping him in it! Nick helped contribute to a regional championship last year as well as three straight conference championships. He will be missed.”

Grant Schrotenboer

SCHOOL: Saugatuck

GRADE: Sophomore

ON THE LINKS: Averaged 36 strokes per nine. Won the SAC Conference medalist honors, took sixth at regionals to qualify for state and was sixth at D3 state tournament. Shot an 84-69-153 at the state finals.

COACH’S VIEW: “Grant continued his stellar play this year and was the Lakeshore Division Player of the Year. He took 1st place in 6 of the 7 conference matches. He’s our most consistent player, and I can’t wait to see where his future takes him.” – Brian Ward

Linus VandenBerg

SCHOOL: Holland Christian

GRADE: Junior

ON THE LINKS: Averaged 36 per nine. Was OK Black Conference medalist for the season. Finished eighth at regionals (third among individuals) to qualify for state after a playoff. Finished 11th at the Division 2 state finals with a 74-75-149.

COACH’S VIEW: “Linus is an incredibly gifted golfer, and he hits the cover off the ball. His ability to scramble and get out of trouble is really fun to watch, and he has the mental toughness to bounce back after a bad break. I’ve never coached someone that has the capability like Linus to make a birdie or string some pars together in a row when he absolutely needs it.” – Caleb Nykamp

Charlie VanVliet

SCHOOL: Holland Christian

GRADE: Senior

ON THE LINKS: Averaged 38 per nine. Finished fifth at OK Black Conference rankings.

COACH’S VIEW: “Charlie was Mr. Consistent this year for us with some incredible comeback rounds. He improved his ability to shoot low scores dramatically from last year to this year. He had a knack for fighting back and finishing strong after a couple of tough holes early on in his rounds. He never ever gave up on a round, and it was fulfilling to see his resiliency and mental toughness grow exponentially over the last few years.” – Caleb Nykamp
