When Florida State held its Junior Day event last weekend, one of the most important visitors was four-star edge Frederick Ards. Before his trip, Ards named FSU as a top five school in his recruitment.
The Seminoles were hosting Ards for the first time since they offered him last January. Needless to say, they left a good impression on the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder.
“It was a good visit, just scratching the surface,” Ards said via Warchant. “We didn’t really get into the tour … just sitting in meetings with all the coaches and getting to know everybody.”
Ards is the nation’s No. 107 overall prospect and the No. 16 edge in the country per the Rivals industry rankings. They have also deemed him the No. 11 recruit from the state of Florida.
While Ards spent the day ingratiating himself with Florida State’s staff, there’s one member that he didn’t have to get familiar with, and that’s edge coach Nick Williams. When he was at Syracuse, Williams began building a bond with Ards, and it has continued up until this point.
“Real close bonds. Real close bonds. I love Coach Nick,” said Ards.
At the moment, FSU is the only school in the top five for Ards that doesn’t have an official visit scheduled, but that is currently being planned. Snagging Ards would be huge for Florida State and their 2027 class after they landed four-star edge Anthony Cavallaro last week.
