Big question facing Jaguars linebacker position heading into minicamp

Mandatory minicamp will take place for the Jacksonville Jaguars from June 9-11. This is often the last big milestone in the NFL offseason calendar before training camp arrives in late July.

Through the first two weeks of OTA practices, we’ve gained some valuable insights into where things stand on the depth chart, along with who may be standing out early on, but questions at each position group remain, and that’s normal at this time of the year. It won’t be until training camp and the preseason take place that playing time and final roster decisions are made.

So as part of our Jaguars’ minicamp preview, let’s highlight the one big question facing each position group. Up next is the linebacker position.

Can Ventrell Miller secure the starting job and provide stability?

In Devin Lloyd’s absence, Miller is the presumed favorite for the starting role next to Foye Oluokun. The Jaguars have remained bullish about him all offseason, and the lack of significant moves made at the linebacker position is a sign of that internal confidence in him.

Over the last two seasons, Miller has filled a rotational role defensively off the bench and made some spot starts when needed. During that span, he’s logged six pressures, made 97 total tackles, forced three pass breakups, and come away with one interception, per PFF.

Helping to earn Miller this starting opportunity was his performance last summer in Campanile’s defense and throughout the year when called upon. Prior to Lloyd’s breakout season, on the Jaguars’ Week 1 unofficial depth chart in 2025, one of the starting linebacker roles was listed as Lloyd or Miller, highlighting the impression that Miller made.

“Ventrell’s done a really good job up to this point,” said defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile during OTAs. “There’s a bunch of guys battling it out in that room right now, but Ventrell did a good job for us last year and played a bunch for us. He’s a really physical guy.”

Perhaps one other name to watch for this starting role is second-year linebacker Jack Kiser, who had a strong showing, according to Jaguars on SI’s John Shipley, during a recent OTA practice.
