Bay Point Billfish Open underway with eyes on the million dollar prize

The third annual Bay Point Billfish Open set sail Thursday morning, officially launching one of the Gulf’s premier summer sportfishing tournaments at Point South Marina.

Running through Saturday, June 28, the final official weigh-in day, the tournament has generated strong turnout and local excitement. Anglers are competing for a projected purse exceeding $1 million, targeting catch-and-release species such as blue and white marlin, sailfish, and tuna, while also pursuing trophy-class wahoo, mahi-mahi, and marlin eligible for weigh-ins.

The event’s momentum continues to build with live dockside concerts each evening and a festive atmosphere open to the public. No ticket is required for entry, with free access to the marina and surrounding events, excluding parking.

The public can catch the boats returning to shore for the official weigh-in Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m., the highlight of the weekend as teams bring in their biggest catches for scoring.
