Anna Leigh Waters, Johnsons among Daytona PPA Tour champs

HOLLY HILL — JW Johnson and his sister Jorja doubled up in doubles, and Anna Leigh Waters made short work in her short week as the PPA Tour’s Daytona Beach Open wrapped up another stop at Pictona in Holly Hill.

JW and Jorja won gold in mixed doubles, and both went their separate ways to win gold in both the men’s and women’s doubles.

Jorja won her women’s doubles gold with the world’s best woman pickleballer, Waters, who often wins gold in all three classes but opted out of singles and mixed doubles this past week.

More than 1,300 players — the professional field and, the vast majority, amateurs at various skill levels — competed in this year’s event.

The professional tour resumes play in mid-January with the Carvana Masters at Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, California.

Here’s the rundown of results from Sunday’s finals, and by the way, singles finals are best-of-three, while doubles are best-of-five.

Men’s Singles

Christopher Haworth had no trouble in the final, defeating Gabriel Joseph 11-5, 11-1.

Men’s Doubles

The tightest match of Championship Sunday went all five games in the best-of-five format. The back-and-forth final went to JW Johnson and Augustus Ge, who outlasted Riley Newman and Noe Khlif — 11-6, 9-11, 11-1, 6-11, 11-8.

Women’s Singles

Catherine Parenteau, ranked seventh or better in the PPA Tour 2025 rankings in all three divisions (singles, doubles, mixed), took advantage of Waters’ absence from the singles field and won gold with an 11-4, 12-10 win over Katerina Stewart.

Women’s Doubles

A more competitive final may have been contemplated, since it featured the tournament’s top two seeds, but Jorja Johnson and Waters swept second-seeded Parenteau and Tyra Hurricane Black — 11-3, 11-8, 11-5.

Mixed Doubles

The Johnsons left little doubt as to why they were the top seed in this event.

The brother-sister duo of Jorja and JW made quick work of sixth-seeded Andrei Daescu and Kaitlyn Christian — 11-5, 11-1, 11-4.
