Andy Amoroso, former Lake Worth commissioner, suffers stroke

Andy Amoroso, the former Lake Worth Beach city commissioner, recently suffered a stroke and is asking help paying expenses, unable to run his downtown business, the Tacky Tourist gift shop.

Amoroso, 61, suffered the stroke the night of July 16 in his Lake Worth Beach apartment, his friend Tracie O’Connor wrote July 20 on the fundraising website GoFundMe. He was unable to call for help for 12 hours, and the stroke left him mostly unable to move his left side, O’Connor wrote.

As the former commissioner recovers, O’Connor set up the online fundraiser asking for $11,000 to help pay for rent on Amoroso’s shop, as well as other expenses such as his mortgage and bills.

“The hope is that with dedicated physical therapy, Andy can regain the use of his left side and work toward recovery,” O’Connor wrote.

Andy Amoroso was Lake Worth city commissioner for decade

“As a small business owner, Andy faces a unique challenge: if his store isn’t open, he isn’t earning income to cover his rent, mortgage, and bills,” O’Connor’s message says. “This makes his recovery even more difficult, as he needs support to manage his living expenses while focusing on healing.”

Amoroso has lived in the city for more than 50 years. He graduated from Lake Worth High School and Palm Beach State College and has owned and operated many businesses in the city. He was a city commissioner from 2011 through 2020 and ran for mayor in 2024 against Betty Resch.
