After nearly a decade in Lake Park, Chef Jorge Paz and his wife and business partner Tara Barnes are relocating their popular Peruvian-Asian fusion restaurant, The Catch Seafood & Sushi, to West Palm Beach.
Their lease ended in June, and initial plans pointed to a location near Military Trail and Donald Ross Road.
Instead, The Catch is resurfacing at 529 25th Street in the Northwood neighborhood, on the edge of the city’s ambitious Nora District redevelopment. The space previously housed Legacy Lounge & Restaurant.
The Catch’s appeal
The Catch built a loyal clientele on Northlake Boulevard with its scratch-made dishes, laid-back vibe and waterfront patio where diners could watch fish jump as they ate.
In her review, Post reporter Maya Washburn praised the restaurant’s standout tiradito, a colorful plate of raw lionfish, dragon fruit, and cucumber, garnished with pomegranate arils, alfalfa sprouts and cilantro.
She deliciously described how Chef Paz marinates the fish in ginger, soy sauce, and citrus juices for a tangy, refreshing bite. She said the dish paired well with the restaurant’s crispy vegetable tapas, served on fried plantains and topped with scallions, white beans, avocado and parmesan.
Paz, a Johnson & Wales alum who once ran a Peruvian restaurant with his father, opened The Catch with Barnes in 2015 after the two met working at Hog Snappers in Tequesta. Their daughter, Luna, even has a sushi roll named after her.
Paz’s résumé reads like a culinary passport stamped with Ritz-Carlton kitchens in Coconut Grove and South Beach plus the refined elegance of The Setai hotel. Locally, in addition to Hog Snappers, he worked at Cafe L’Europe and Café Boulud Palm Beach.
What’s new at The Catch in West Palm Beach
Currently under construction, the restaurant is expected to open autumn 2025. While it may not have the same waterfront view, fans can expect the warm hospitality that made The Catch a local favorite.
This time around, the new location isn’t waterfront, but it’s rich in thoughtful design. While the square footage is comparable to the previous space, the layout flows more naturally and includes a sprawling tiki hut for al fresco dining, music, games and private events.
The couple is also building a dedicated carryout space for breakfast and lunch offerings.
Then there’s the new full bar, truly an antique showpiece of architectural elegance with a nod to modern innovation. It features a frost rail system which is a sleek steel strip built into the bar top that keeps drinks cold on contact. The bar’s corner sets the stage for a new elevated sushi experience, adding another layer of allure to The Catch’s evolving identity.

“There’s a lot of opportunity here, and we’ve got ten years of loyal followers behind us,” Barnes said.
