A 63-year-old Sarasota motorcyclist died Saturday afternoon in a crash involving an SUV in Bradenton, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at 1:28 p.m. at the intersection of 301 Boulevard East and 5th Street East in Manatee County, troopers said in a news release.
Troopers said a 37-year-old Bradenton woman was driving a 2016 Ford Explorer north on 5th Street East and was approaching a stop sign at 301 Boulevard East. A 2007 Honda Silver Wing motorcycle, driven by the Sarasota man, was headed west on 301 Boulevard East and approaching the same intersection.
According to troopers, the SUV attempted to cross 301 Boulevard East and moved into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the right side of the SUV.
The rider separated from the vehicle, troopers said. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The SUV driver was not injured. A 47-year-old female passenger from Bradenton sustained minor injuries, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, this is the second road fatality in Sarasota County in 2026, and the 25th crash involving a motorcycle.
Sarasota man killed after SUV crashes into two trees
On Feb. 24, the Herald-Tribune reported that a 34-year-old Sarasota man died after his SUV left the roadway and struck multiple trees along Bee Ridge Road before splitting in half, troopers said.
The crash happened when a 2018 Toyota RAV4 traveling eastbound on Bee Ridge Road, about 1,000 feet east of Swift Road, veered off the roadway and entered a grassy front yard near 2920 Bee Ridge Road.
Authorities say the vehicle first struck an oak tree, then hit a second oak tree with such force that the SUV split in half. Bee Ridge Road was shut down in the east direction between Midland Road and Worcester Road due to the crash.
The driver was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
As of Feb. 24, there have been 593 crashes in Manatee County in 2026. Of those, there have been five deaths and 428 injuries, according to the Florida Crash Dashboard. In Sarasota County, there have been 692 crashes. Of those, there has been one death and 418 injuries.
