Five Volusia-Flagler area high school baseball teams will be playing for state championships.
Spruce Creek, Flagler Palm Coast, Deltona, Seabreeze and Trinity Christian were selected to their respective regional playoff brackets during the FHSAA’s reveal show on April 20.
Spruce Creek was the Volusia-Flagler area’s highest-seeded program at No. 2 in Region 1-7A. The Hawks, who are No. 15 in the state rankings, will host No. 7 seed Flagler Palm Coast in the quarterfinals as the only game between two local programs.
The only other local host is Trinity Christian, the No. 4 seed in Region 2-1A. The Eagles take on No. 5 Geneva to start their tournament.
Region 2-5A has two area representatives in Seabreeze and Deltona, who could face one another in the semifinals if they upset their first opponents.
No. 5 Deltona will travel to Orlando to play No. 4 Cypress Creek, and District 5-5A champion Seabreeze will visit No. 1 Winter Springs as the No. 8 seed.
The postseason begins April 24 with single-game quarterfinals before moving to best-of-three series in the semifinals and finals.
With the winner of Spruce Creek-Flagler Palm Coast guaranteed to go to the next round, the first game of its best-of-three series will be on May 1 followed by a doubleheader on May 2. The same goes for any other area squad that advances past the opening quarterfinal.
