Vote in the Gainesville-area Athlete of the Week poll for May 11-17

The high school sports season is rapidly unfolding, which means it’s once again time for everyone’s favorite part of the week: The Gainesville Sun’s Athlete of the Week Poll.

Athlete of the Week nominees are compiled by what’s available on MaxPreps and by submission, so coaches, athletic directors and statisticians are encouraged to send nominees and their stats to nram@usatodayco.com for consideration.

Last week’s winner was Zac Brown from the Buchholz baseball team. Hewett received over 5,000 votes as he had Two hits, three RBIs and a triple in the Bobcats’ 10-2 Game 1 Region Final win over Pace.

Voting closes at noon on Friday, May 22. FYI, this will be our last athlete of the week poll for the 2025-26 athletic season. See you again in the fall!

Emma Barton, Gainesville High softball

Two RBIs and a triple in the Hurricanes 9-1 win over Wesley Chapel in the Class 5A-Region 2 semifinals.

Erick Lasseter, Union County baseball

Complete game, three hit shutout in the Fightin’ Tigers 2-0 win over Cottondale in the Rural Class state semifinals.

Gabriel Cobb, Trenton baseball

Two runs, two hits and two RBIs in the Tigers 8-0 win over Holmes County in the Rural Class state semifinals.

Josie Raulerson, Columbia softball

Three hits, two runs, three RBIs and a home run in the Tigers 11-1 win over Arnold in the Class 4A-Region 1 semifinal.

Kendall Carter, Union County baseball

Walk off sacrifice fly to win the state championship for the Fightin’ Tigers 9-8 in a thriller over Trenton.

Mason VunCannon, Trenton baseball

Complete game, three hit shutout in the Tigers 8-0 win over Holmes County in the Rural Class state semifinals.

Nate Robertson, Union County baseball

Two RBIs and two runs scored in the Fightin’ Tigers 9-8 Rural State Championship win over Trenton.

Presley Atkins, Trenton softball

Go ahead RBI in the fifth inning to lift the Tigers to a 2-1 win over Williston in the Rural-Region 4 Final.

Ryleigh Stone, Columbia softball

A complete game, plus four RBIs, in the Tigers 6-2 win over Baker County in the Class 4A-Region 1 final.
