Player Summary

Antonio Watts may officially be listed as a linebacker, but Louisville deployed him in a variety of roles throughout the defense. During film study, Watts aligned as an off-ball linebacker, slot defender, overhang player, goal-line defender, edge support player, and deep safety. The versatility alone makes him one of the more unique defenders in this linebacker class.

What stands out the most in his game is his processing speed. Watts consistently identifies offensive concepts before they fully develop and positions himself accordingly. Whether he is fitting a run lane, dropping into coverage, or working from a deeper alignment, he rarely appears uncomfortable with his assignment. His communication skills and awareness are evident throughout the film.

In coverage, Watts offers more flexibility than most linebackers. Louisville trusted him in underneath zones, slot responsibilities, and even deeper safety alignments. One of the most impressive plays observed came from a deep alignment where Watts ranged over the top of a receiver and secured an interception. Those types of reps highlight the athleticism and ball skills that make him difficult to categorize as a traditional linebacker.

Against the run, Watts wins with recognition, angles, and effort. He consistently battles through contact and works to disengage rather than accepting blocks. He is particularly effective against tight ends and perimeter blockers, using his hands well to stay involved in the play. While larger offensive linemen can still create challenges when they establish clean contact, Watts’ willingness to keep working through traffic helps minimize those issues.

Entering his final collegiate season, Watts projects as one of the more versatile defenders in the 2027 draft cycle. If he continues to build on his coverage versatility and playmaking production, NFL teams could view him as a valuable hybrid defender capable of contributing in multiple roles throughout a modern defense.
