High school football is back.
With the 2026-27 FHSAA athletic calendar officially getting underway last week with the start of fall practice, the excitement, sights and sounds from Friday Night Lights will soon follow.
Many area teams will play their respective preseason Kickoff Classic this week before kicking off the regular season the following week. For SSAA teams, the regular season begins this week.
As that journey begins, TCPalm is forecasting the players at their respective positions who are expected to shine during that stretch. Whether they’ve put up solid stats the previous season(s) or have the interest of schools at the next level, these athletes are expected to have starring roles in 2026.
We’ll break down all position groups, from skills positions to the guys in the trenches. Today, we examine the players with the best hands on the field.
Here are TCPalm’s best area receivers entering this upcoming season, in alphabetical order.
Best Florida high school football WRs on the Treasure Coast for 2026
Sylvester Brinkley IV, Sr., John Carroll Catholic
The first receiver on this list is among the smallest, but is capable of making a house call whenever he touches the ball. He proved as such with a 100-yard game and three total touchdowns during a postseason game against Miami Norland. Brinkley finished his junior season with eight scores as a junior. He holds an offer from Division II Chowan.
K.J. Davis, Sr., John Carroll Catholic
This pass catcher has transitioned to tight end and for good reason. Davis has been a big target for the Rams as the senior measures in at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. He is coming off a junior campaign where he recorded 30 receptions for 454 yards and five touchdowns. Davis is committed to play collegiately at Coastal Carolina.
Antonio Hill, Sr., Fort Pierce Central
Last season, Marquan Burgess set the program’s receiving record with his work underneath. But as a dangerous deep option, Hill deserves an assist. One of, if not the area’s best long-ball threat was a critical part to the Cobras’ postseason run. He finished his junior campaign with 38 catches for 850 yards (22.4 ypc) and 10 touchdowns while adding another three scores on the ground. Hill is committed to play at West Georgia.
Marc Johns, Sr., Vero Beach
One of the area’s best track and field athletes, Johns is the first of three Vero Beach players on this list. He was St. Lucie West Centennial’s top receiver a season ago as he led the Eagles in receptions (34), receiving yards (547) and touchdowns (5). He added a rushing score and was a major asset on special teams, delivering three punt returns touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown.
Marcus Melbourne, Sr., Vero Beach
A consistent presence as part of a talented receiving corp, Melbourne helped Vero reach the Class 7A state championship game. The 6-0, 190-pound receiver upped his production from his sophomore season, collecting 26 receptions for 511 yards and four touchdowns in 2025. Melbourne holds Division I offers from Bethune-Cookman, Rhode Island and Wofford.
Donevon Richardson, Jr., John Carroll Catholic
Richardson has a case for the area’s best home-run threat. Averaging 22.5 yards per game, the 5-8, 155-pound receiver collected 31 grabs for 696 yards and eight touchdowns last season, each statistic leading the Rams. He also added a punt return score.
Michael Thomas, Jr., Sebastian River
Following two seasons with Vero Beach, Thomas took his talents to another Indian River County school as he looks to shine with the Sharks. Listed at 6-0, 180-pound receiver possesses great hands and a wide catch radius.
Jermaine Walker, Sr., Fort Pierce Westwood
Arguably no player in the area is a tougher matchup assignment. Walker has improved his hands to add to his breakaway speed and an ability to make tough catches in the face of tight coverages. As a junior, he hauled in 44 receptions for a team-best 767 yards and six touchdowns. Walker is committed to play at FAU.
Gage Wilson, Jr., Jensen Beach
Wilson is a two-way athlete that stars on each side of the ball. He’s a playmaker as a safety on defense and displays just as much talent on offense at wide receiver, even if he doesn’t get the ball all that often. The 6-3, 180-pound athlete was credited for seven catches. But he racked up 230 yards and three touchdowns. Wilson has collected numerous offers, which include Baylor and Syracuse.
Latravious Woods, Jr., Vero Beach
After delivering the best play of the season as a freshman, Woods followed up with pacing Vero in receptions and touchdowns as a sophomore. He made a team-best 59 catches for 637 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 5-9, 165-pound receiver does most of his damage as an option out of the slot. Woods holds an offer from Purdue.
