Dozens of protests across California are planned for this Labor Day as part of nationwide demonstrations referred to as “Workers Over Billionaires.”
After the “No Kings Day” and “Good Trouble Lives On” protests earlier this year, Californians will once again see marches and rallies taking place across the state, from Fort Bragg in Northern California to Escondido in San Diego County, on Sept. 1.
The Labor Day “day of action” is to “stand strong against billionaire exploitation and corporate domination,” said May Day Strong in a document about the upcoming demonstrations. May Day Strong listed its Labor Day partners, which included various unions as well as advocacy groups like the 50501 Movement and Indivisible.
“The billionaires continue to wage a war on working people, with their cronies in the administration, ICE and law enforcement backing up their attacks,” the document read. “This Labor Day we will continue to stand strong, fighting for public schools over private profits, healthcare over hedge funds, shared prosperity over billionaire-bought politics.”
The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations recently kicked off a Workers’ Labor Day week of action, celebrating “the power we have when we come together in a union — the power to take back our country for working people, not billionaires.” The AFL-CIO has listed where Workers’ Labor Day related events, including those under the “Workers Over Billionaires” banner, are taking place nationwide.
Here’s where these demonstrations will take place in California.

Some events, including one in Mount Shasta and San Rafael, aren’t taking place on Sept. 1. Not all events in California have been dubbed as “Workers Over Billionaires,” although many are. For example, one of the events listed is an annual Labor Day picnic in Anderson hosted by the AFL-CIO. So, Californians interested in attending a local demonstration should visit the map on either maydaystrong.org or workerslaborday.org to learn more about the types of events taking place near them.
