The first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is ending on a dusty note, as a windblown dust advisory was lengthened Sunday for the entire desert and will now stretch into Monday, April 13.
The South Coast Air Quality Management District said gusts up to 51 mph are expected Sunday evening through 8 p.m. across the Coachella Valley, with air quality reaching levels that can affect sensitive groups, such as children, adults over 65 and people with chronic lung or heart diseases.
Air quality may be worst at times for those in northern Cathedral City.
To reduce risk:
Air quality conditions across the Coachella Valley can be checked on an online interactive map maintained by the South Coast AQMD, which is updated hourly at aqmd.gov.
The windy conditions have already had an effect on the music festival. A set by Anyma had to be canceled on Friday out of an abundance of caution due to windy conditions. That same night, a speaker fell and injured a spectator at the Do Lab in an incident likely caused by the wind. The first week of the festival ends Sunday.
