Will Chargers receive any compensatory picks in 2027 NFL Draft?

The Chargers are positioned to be beneficiaries of the NFL’s compensatory pick formula in the 2027 NFL Draft.

The Bolts are projected to receive a third-round compensatory pick following the departure of edge rusher Odafe Oweh, who signed with the Commanders. Offensive lineman Cole Strange canceled out the comp pick for offensive lineman Zion Johnson, who signed with the Browns.

The Chargers only have five draft picks next year. They traded their 2027 sixth-round pick in exchange for guard Trevor Penning, and their 2027 seventh-round pick was used for offensive tackle Austin Deculus. This could change, as Hortiz has shown the willingness to add picks on draft day, starting with five and ending with eight in this past draft.

By letting key veterans walk while limiting the number of qualifying incoming free agents, general manager Hortiz is sticking to his guns by maximizing the team’s draft capital. This influx of extra picks in 2027 will provide the Bolts with the cheap, young depth necessary to continue to build a sustainable contender around Justin Herbert.
