A driver struck and killed a motorcyclist along the 15 Freeway just south of the Cajon Pass early Friday before abandoning the involved car nearby and running away, authorities said.
Erek Brown, 34, of Victorville died in the collision, which was reported just before 12:30 a.m. in front of the weigh station scales along the northbound 15 Freeway, south of Highway 138, according to California Highway Patrol officials and San Bernardino County coroner’s records.
He had stopped his motorcycle on a gore point leading to the scales when he was struck by a purple Scion xB, which continued driving after the wreck, CHP Officer Jose Hernandez said.
The car was soon found abandoned a short distance to the north near the interchange between the 15 Freeway and Highway 138, he said. But the driver had fled on foot and remained at large.
Paramedics pronounced Brown dead at the scene at 12:50 p.m., Hernandez said.
No description of the hit-and-run driver was available.
The investigation was ongoing, and anyone with information can reach the CHP’s San Bernardino Area Office at (909) 383-4247.
