Tigers 4, Brewers 1: Rough consecutive innings for Chad Patrick

DETROIT – The Milwaukee Brewers will try to make it two straight victories and six of seven Wednesday night, April 22 as they again take on the Detroit Tigers in an interleague matchup at Comerica Park.

Left-hander DL Hall (0-0, 2.79 earned run average) starts as the opener for the Brewers, while right-hander Casey Mize (1-1, 2.78) opposes for the Tigers. Hall becomes the 10th pitcher to start a game for Milwaukee this season, leaving the Brewers tied with the Houston Astros for most in the major leagues.

Right-hander Chad Patrick (1-0, 0.95) will pitch the bulk of innings at some point after Hall.

Milwaukee also announced that right-hander Quinn Priester was set to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Class AAA Nashville on Wednesday.

The hole becomes deeper for Chad Patrick

Javier Báez singled to start the Detroit fifth, then after Jake Rogers flew out Kevin McGonigle fouled off four straight pitches before winning a 10-pitch battle with Patrick by lining a double off the wall in right.

That scored Báez, and after Gleyber Torres grounded out Colt Keith lined a single to right to drive in McGonigle to extend the deficit to 4-1 for Milwaukee.

Tigers take their first lead

With one out in the third, Riley Greene laced a double to the gap in right-center to bring up Spencer Torkelson, who quickly got ahead in the count before pounding a 400-foot home run out to left-center.

Torkelson’s first round-tripper of the season also gave Detroit its first lead of the series.

Brice Turang extends streak, starts the scoring

Mize had allowed only a Brandon Lockridge bunt single through the first two innings and had retired the first two batters he faced in the third before Brice Turang drew a walk, extending his on-base streak to 21 games.

Turang then stole second and one pitch later William Contreras muscled a single into center field and Turang came around to score to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.

Hall, meanwhile, worked around a pair of walks to begin his stint as opener to post a pair of scoreless innings before giving way to Patrick to start the bottom of the third.
