Veteran 49ers cornerback arrested in Los Angeles on Thursday

While all 32 NFL teams are in the slow period of their offseason between mandatory minicamp and the start of training camp, teams really only worry about their players getting in trouble while they’re away.

Unfortunately, the San Francisco 49ers found out on Thursday that one of their players had gotten involved in an off-field incident, as cornerback Deommodore Lenoir was arrested.

According to TMZ, Lenoir and another man, Marcus Cunningham, were approached by law enforcement in Los Angeles when they noticed a car was double-parked and blocking traffic. Officers reportedly noticed a gun in the car, which belonged to Cunningham.

Cunningham reportedly threw his car keys to Lenoir, who allegedly refused to give them to the officers upon their request. The 25-year-old was arrested for “resisting a peace officer” and wasn’t released until Friday morning. He’ll now be scheduled to appear in court next month.

Lenoir was a fifth-round pick of the 49ers in the 2021 NFL draft out of Oregon. He earned a starting role in his second season in the league and held it through last year. Over his four years in the NFL, he’s appeared in 62 games (starting 47) and recorded 265 tackles (10 for a loss), 26 passes defensed, six interceptions, one sack and one forced fumble. Last offseason, he inked a five-year, $88.88 million deal.

San Francisco’s secondary is already seen as a weak point in their defense, and if Lenoir is forced to miss time or practice as a result, this could hurt the group even more.
