On Saturday, USC football defeated Purdue 33-17 in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Trojans earned their first victory East of the Rocky Mountains in more than 13 years, and are now 1-0 in Big Ten play.
While he did not light the stat sheet on fire, it was a very solid performance for USC quarterback Jayden Maiava. He finished the day completing 17 of 28 passes for 282 yards, while also adding ten yards and a touchdown on the ground. USC as a whole had another big day on offense, recording 460 yards from scrimmage.
Following the game, Maiava discussed the Trojans’ offensive performance.
“Just trusting in Coach Riley, the staff,” Maiava said. “They do such a great job just preparing us. And as players, we’ve just gotta go out there and trust it and, you know, believe in who we are.
“It’s a great win. A lot of things to learn from. We’ll just go back and watch the film. Definitely plays I want back, throws I want back, decisions I want back.”
Through three, games, USC’s offense has scored 151 points. While the level competition has not exactly been elite, the Trojans have been doing what they are supposed to do against opponents of that caliber on offense. Maiava and company will have an opportunity to keep the fireworks going when they host Michigan State at the Coliseum on Saturday night.
