USC baseball suffers significant transfer portal exodus

With the 2026 college baseball season in the books, the transfer portal is now in high gear. Recently, USC suffered a significant loss when Trojans designated hitter/catcher Augie Lopez elected to enter the portal.

However, Lopez is not USC’s only portal departure. The Trojans have seen a number of other players leave the program since their season came to an end in the super regionals.

USC has lost several significant pieces on the mound. Diego Velazquez and Gavin Lauridsen, both of whom played key roles for the Trojans as true freshmen in 2026, recently announced that they will be entering the portal. In addition, fellow pitchers Ben Cushnie, Garren Rizzo, Michael Ebner, Matthew Morrell, and Jake Sekany will also be continuing their college baseball careers elsewhere.

The Trojans have seen a notable exodus of position players, too. Catchers Richard Tejeda and Jarrett Sabol, infielder Maddox Riske, and outfielders Nolan Eberwein and Will Stickney have announced that they will be entering the transfer portal as well.

USC is coming off of its best season in more than two decades, a campaign in which the Trojans advanced to the Chapel Hill Super Regional. Head coach Andy Stankiewicz will look to lead the team on another deep postseason run next year, but will first need to replace some significant production both on the mound and at the plate this offseason.
