A former championship wrestling coach accused of sex crimes against a student was rearrested and jailed without bail on July 10 after more alleged victims came forward.
Ronald Wilson, 72, was initially arrested May 13 at his home in Colorado in connection with alleged sex crimes against the original student and jailed in Ventura County but released nine days later after posting $120,000 bail. After news of his arrest spread, more people came forward who alleged Wilson had sexually assaulted them when they were students, Ventura County Sheriff’s officials said on July 11.
He pleaded not guilty to the offenses connected to the first student on July 10 at an arraignment in Ventura County Superior Court, the court docket shows. Afterward, detectives arrested Wilson on suspicion of crimes alleged by the other victims, sheriff’s officials said.
It appears two other former students came forward, according to a news release issued by the sheriff’s office.
The latest arrest was for alleged violations of laws against rape, sexual penetration with force or violence, a lewd act upon a child, sodomy by force and forcible oral copulation on a child under 14.
Wilson was the head wrestling coach at Camarillo High School for 27 years, the Star reported when he retired in 2020. His resume also includes being named to the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame.
His next court appearance is set July 14.
