The USC Trojans’ superstar JuJu Watkins is out for the season as she heals from her torn ACL. Watkins’ injury creates a void for a women’s college basketball star in Southern California. Enter the Betts sisters. Lauren and Sienna Betts will try to lead the UCLA Bruins to their first ever NCAA Tournament championship.
The Betts sisters graced the cover of the SLAMU magazine earlier this week, with both sisters donning their Bruin uniforms. The magazine itself is only digital but the cover is available for purchase on a print and on shirts at the SLAM website.
UCLA is all-in this season, surrounding the Betts sisters with Kiki Rice, Gabriela Jaquez, Gianna Kneepkens and Charlisse Leger-Walker. The Bruins are 2-0 to begin the new season but the road is about to get tougher with consecutive ranked opponents next on their schedule.
Sienna Betts was the No. 2 recruit in last year’s class and while she hasn’t made her Bruin debut due to a lower leg injury, she’s expected to be a major addition for head coach Cori Close. Lauren Betts has looked strong in her first two games, she’s coming off an All-American season where she was named the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year while setting a program record for blocked shots.
Now the Betts’ find themselves as cover stars together before playing an official game together but the sibling pairing will be must-see TV for Southern California basketball fans before Lauren Betts heads to the WNBA after this season.
