Deputies arrested two suspects and sought at least two more following a violent robbery at a Big Bear cannabis business on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The incident unfolded about 6:30 p.m. May 25 at the Jah Healing Center, in the area of Mojave Boulevard and Big Tree Drive, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
“Four to five suspects wearing masks and armed with guns entered the establishment,” agency spokeswoman Elizabeth Moran said.
“The suspects struck the victim multiple times with a handgun and attempted to steal a bag of items from the establishment,” according to Moran. The bag contained cannabis.
The victim, a man, managed to retrieve the bag before the suspect jumped into a white GMC pickup truck and sped away, officials said. The victim did not require hospitalization.
Deputies located the vehicle about two hours later at Highway 38 and Bryant Street near Mentone with only two suspects inside, according to officials and county booking records.
Matthew Moniz and Jacob Watkins, both 34 and from Beaumont, were arrested on suspicion of robbery, records show.
Bail was set at $50,000 pending initial court appearances.
Further details, including descriptions of the outstanding suspects, were not available.
