What is the Tour de Palm Springs?

Since 1998, the Tour de Palm Springs has staged a charity bicycle race, which begins in downtown Palm Springs, but extends throughout the Coachella Valley.

Using a variety of course lengths, riders can bike between seven and 101 miles. Two shorter walking courses are also available.

The operators say the event has raised nearly $5 million for 150 local nonprofit organizations since it started.

Around 1,500 volunteers are needed for it to be successful.

When does Tour de Palm Springs start?

The first rides of the Tour de Palm Springs begin at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, when riders leave for the longest, 101-mile route.

The remaining routes have staggered start times until 10 a.m., when the last riders and walkers leave.

There is also a beer garden available in downtown Palm Springs for spectators and participants, from noon to 8 p.m.

The routes all begin near the intersection of Tahquitz Canyon Way and South Palm Canyon Drive.

What roads will be closed for Tour de Palm Springs?

South Palm Canyon Drive, from Baristo Road to Tahquitz Canyon Way will be closed from 6 a.m., Friday to 7 p.m., Saturday.

Tahquitz Canyon Way will be closed from Palm Canyon Drive to Indian Canyon Drive beginning at 5 a.m. for the departure of the riders.

One lane of northbound traffic on Indian Canyon Drive will be closed throughout the duration of the event, which ends around 5 p.m.
