U.S. News & World Report’s Best Companies to Work For reveals which companies perform well in pay, benefits, work-life balance, professional development, and more, highlighting hundreds of employers nationwide that, based on various data, outshine others for what they offer to their employees.

The media company said it created its first list of best companies in 2023. Now, it has identified 99 California companies as the “best companies,” with fast facts about each employer’s top benefits, from flexible work arrangements to health insurance.

We’re naming the 29 Southern California-based best companies to work for, according to U.S. News & World Report, some of which you’ll recognize, and others you may be less familiar with.

How did U.S. News and World Report determine its best companies?

U.S. News & World Report uses six metrics for its list: the quality of pay and benefits; work-life balance and flexibility; job and company stability; physical and psychological comfort; belongingness and esteem; and career opportunities and professional development.

Numerous data points make up each metric, from employment-related lawsuits to employee sentiments on various topics to the share of workers making a living wage.

Among the companies not eligible for the list were senior living communities, hospitals, government agencies, law firms, universities, schools, and school districts.

For each entry, U.S. News & World Report included information about where each company is headquartered.
