Tight end Terrance Ferguson is entering his second season, already emerging as an intriguing weapon for the Los Angeles Rams. Ferguson displayed a promising balance of length and speed that made him a matchup nightmare for defenses. The hope is that he took a massive step in development during training camp and preseason practices, becoming a bigger part of the offense.
That hope comes more true with each passing day, as head coach Sean McVay affirmed Ferguson is set to play every single skill position, outside of running back for the Rams.
“He’s so smart,” said McVay. “I think what can’t be misunderstood or minimized is how smart this guy is. He plays every single skill position except for halfback for us. Some of the things we ask of him, he does some of the roles we ask of our backs. He’s done a great job. I think he’s got great leadership in that room with guys to be able to learn from with ‘Scooter’ [TEs Coach Scott Huff], with [Tyler] Higbee, with Colby Parkinson.
“It’s that repetition and when you’re conscientious like he is and you’re able to be coached and you’re secure enough to be accountable for where you can grow and stay humble when things go well. He’s really had a nice camp and really been impressed, not surprised, by what he’s done.”
As both a tight end and wide receiver, Ferguson has been a favorite of Matthew Stafford throughout the preparation process. With the burgeoning star set to feature in every personnel package this year, the team could be reinventing how players are utilized in offenses.
