San Diego alternative rock band Switchfoot will play the Ventura County Fair on Aug. 4 in a show that also features Hoobastank, the rock group formed in Agoura Hills.
As part of a daily series of announcements about grandstand acts, fair officials also said rising country star Nate Smith will perform on Aug. 5. The announcements mean the fair’s grandstand lineup as of May 22 includes:
More announcements are expected. The fair runs from July 29 to Aug. 9.
On its website, Switchfoot bills its nearly 30-year portfolio of songs as emotionally intelligent and uplifting. The band’s “Hello Hurricane” won a Grammy in 2009 in the best rock or rap gospel album category. The band’s hits include “Meant to Live” and “Dare You to Move.”
Hoobastank formed in Agoura Hills in 1994 after founding members Doug Robb and Dan Estrin both competed in a battle of the bands contest. The band was nominated twice for Grammys, including the best rock album category for breakthrough album, “The Reason.”
Country singer Smith is a native of Paradise, California, who lost his home in the massive Camp Fire in 2018. The tragedy inspired the breakout hit, “One of These Days,” written with Miykael Goodwin. Smith’s other hits include “Whiskey on You,” “Bulletproof” and “World on Fire.”
Grandstand shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with gates opening at 5 p.m. for a pre-party. The concerts are free with admission to the fair. People can also purchase VIP tickets that will bring seats closer to the stage and other amenities. VIP tickets start at $39 and go on sale online on May 27.
Pre-sale tickets for the fair are priced through May 25 at $13 for adults, $8 for seniors 65 and older and $8 for children 6 to 12. Kids 5 and younger are free.
In April, the fairgrounds board of directors approved a clear bag policy that means many purses, backpacks and other carrying bags won’t be allowed inside the fairgrounds. For more information on the fair, go to venturacountyfair.org.
