Victims, witnesses and family members affected by the Nov. 29 mass shooting in Stockton, which killed four children and injured 11 others, may be eligible for up to $70,000 in state assistance, according to the California Victim Compensation Board.
“CalVCB is deeply saddened by the tragic event that happened in Stockton over the weekend,” CalVCB Executive Officer Lynda Gledhill said. “CalVCB has reached out to our county partners but we urge everyone impacted by the incident to reach out to CalVCB or San Joaquin County’s Victim-Witness advocates to receive assistance.”
CalVCB said reimbursements can cover medical treatment, counseling, emotional support and income loss related to the crime.
Those who were injured, lost loved ones or witnessed the shooting can apply for compensation. Applications must be submitted by Nov. 29, 2032, and CalVCB also offers help filing claims and referrals to local support centers.
Fact sheets about available services are posted online in English and Spanish.
Victims and families can contact CalVCB’s customer service line for assistance Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (800) 777-9229.
