The Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians will lead a search the morning of Friday, July 17 for a tribal member who has been missing for more than two weeks.
Raymond Torres, 45, was last seen around noon July 1 near Martinez Road and Polk Street in Thermal and is believed to be on foot. He is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. It is not known what he was last wearing when he disappeared.
Deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded around 3:26 p.m. July 15 to the 66-000 block of Martinez Road after a family member reported being unable to reach Torres.
He is not considered an “at-risk individual,” spokesperson Sgt. Robert Martinez said in an email to The Desert Sun.
The California Highway Patrol issued a Feather Alert July 15 at the request of the sheriff’s department to help locate Torres through a statewide notification system for missing Indigenous people.
The search will begin at 7 a.m. at the Tribal Hall, located at 66-725 Martinez Road in Thermal. The tribe will provide water and urged volunteers to dress for the heat.
