Sean McVay shares funny quote on how little media opinions matter to him

Whether you call the Los Angeles Rams the best team in the NFL or the most overrated, it doesn’t matter to Sean McVay. He doesn’t care what anyone has to say about his team, good or bad.

In his own funny way, he made that clear after practice on Monday when asked about the high expectations being placed on the Rams this season, considering they’re the Super Bowl favorites. He emphasized the importance of being “inside out” when it comes to external opinions, focusing only on what they can control.

“I think what’s great is that people care about this game and you guys have jobs to do and we respect that. But I respectfully say that your guys’ opinions doesn’t mean s— to us,” he said, eliciting a laugh from the pool of reporters. “But in all seriousness though, what I think is important though is that we’re inside out.”

As promising as the Rams’ roster looks on paper, the season isn’t going to go perfectly. They are going to hit bumps in the road, which will elicit criticism from fans and media members – especially with the Super Bowl-or-bust expectations surrounding the team leading up to the season.

McVay is confident his players and coaches will respond the right way, knowing the high-character people Los Angeles has brought into the building.

“There’s going to be adversity that inevitably we hit,” McVay added. “How we handle that will be key, how we stay connected and how we continue to be courageous to put ourselves out there with the unpredictability of what sports entails. And that’s part of being courageous and that’s what we want. We’ve got a lot of guys that are wired the right way, but I think you build skills in those areas. And I feel really fortunate to do it with a group of people that have that mindset and mentality, but we’ve got to earn it every single day.”

No team has a bigger target on their back than the Rams. In fact, it might be the biggest target since the Chiefs’ dynasty a few years ago. With that comes the expectation of success, and anything less will be a letdown.
