Injuries are already stacking up in the San Francisco 49ers receiving corps, forcing the team to host a handful of wide receivers for workouts.
According to the NFL’s transaction wire, Alex Bachman, D’Wayne Eskridge and Trenton Irwin all worked out for the 49ers on Wednesday. San Francisco is seeking WR depth after a knee injury sent WR Ricky Pearsall to the sidelines for an undetermined amount of time. He’s the second WR hurt in camp this season. Christian Kirk is also missing time with a calf injury.
Bachman has appeared in 23 games with one start since debuting for the New York Giants in 2021. He played in three games for New York and then appeared in 19 games for the Las Vegas Raiders across the last two seasons. In his career he has five catches for 43 yards.
Eskridge was a second-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in the 2021 draft. His 10 catches for 64 yards and one touchdown in his rookie season also marked his most productive year as a pro. He was in Seattle for three years and then joined the Miami Dolphins for the last two seasons. In 43 games he’s hauled in 24 receptions for 228 yards and one touchdown.
Irwin didn’t play in the NFL last season, but the former undrafted free agent out of Stanford spent six years with the Cincinnati Bengals and posted 46 catches for 601 yards and five touchdowns in 41 games with nine starts.
San Francisco may look to add multiple WRs from this group to help them get through training camp and the preseason without putting too much of a workload on players they anticipate contributing in the regular season.
