History unfolded in the San Joaquin Athletic Association this season.
Chavez’s boys soccer program claimed its first league title since 2010-11, while Franklin’s girls lifted their first since 2014-15.
Both teams finished undefeated in SJAA play, with Franklin’s girls even climbing into the state’s top 80 in the MaxPreps rankings. Each also avenged runner-up finishes from the previous season.
But dominance at the top didn’t mean a lack of competition.
Five boys teams from the SJAA qualified for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs — more than any other league in San Joaquin County — while three girls teams also advanced.
The boys race remained crowded behind Chavez’s 12-0-2 league mark. Edison finished second with nine wins, Tokay claimed third with eight, and defending champion Franklin placed fourth with seven. Weston Ranch followed with six, and all five reached the postseason.
On the girls side, Franklin led the way with a 13-0-1 league record. Tokay, last year’s champion, finished second at 7-3-4, while Edison and Bear Creek tied at 7-4-3. Weston Ranch added six wins.
