Sacramento man killed in rollover wreck on I-5 south of Redding, 3 others injured

A Sacramento man was killed early Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in Anderson.

The 25-year-old was driving a white 2017 Jeep SUV on northbound I-5 at Balls Ferry Road just before 1:30 a.m., according to a California Highway Patrol news release.

Investigators said the Jeep was speeding when it crashed into the rear of a 2017 blue Mazda sedan. The Jeep then went through a guardrail and down a steep embankment and overturned. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

The driver’s identification is pending notification of next of kin.

The two passengers in the Jeep, an 18-year-old man and 16-year-old boy, both of Sacramento, were taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

The Mazda came to rest in the center median of the freeway. The driver, a 64-year-old man from Hoquiam, Washington, suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.

The CHP said the crash is still under investigation.
