San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch’s reaction to the Los Angeles Rams drafting Ty Simpson generated a lot of buzz. He was asked about the Rams’ decision to draft Simpson and couldn’t help but smile about it.
It seems he wasn’t the only division rival happy about who the Rams took. The Seattle Seahawks feel the same way.
ESPN reporter Brady Henderson said on “NFL Live” this week that the Seahawks had a third-round grade on Simpson and are not nervous about his arrival in the NFC West.
“They had a third-round grade on Ty Simpson, and as you know, sometimes teams will kind of squirm and get nervous when a team in their division drafts a player,” Henderson said. “I can tell you, this was not the case with the Seahawks and Ty Simpson.”
Henderson continued: “I don’t think the Seahawks were at all disappointed to see a player that’s probably not going to help them out much this season.”
The Rams are a team that’s in win-now mode, boasting a roster capable of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in February. Adding an instant-impact rookie like Makai Lemon or Kenyon Sadiq may have helped the Rams more now than Simpson will, but he’s expected to be the future at quarterback.
Teams have different grades on players all the time, so the Seahawks having a third-round grade on Simpson is no surprise. But it does go to show how one team viewed him in this class.
