The Chargers are unlikely to add wide receiver help prior to the start of the 2026 season.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano shared the news via X.
The Chargers have been linked to the likes of Tyreek Hill, Deebo Samuel (before he signed with the 49ers) and Keenan Allen. However, it appears they will opt to stick with the core they have in-house.
The Chargers’ wide receiver room may not be among the league’s elite, but it is anchored by third-year receiver Ladd McConkey, who has emerged as Los Angeles’ unquestioned top target.
McConkey is coming off an underwhelming 2025 season, at least compared to his 2024 rookie season. The 24-year-old’s numbers dropped significantly; however, as the 2026 season approaches, he will undoubtedly be Justin Herbert’s first look down the field.
Outside of McConkey, there’s some uncertainty in the wide receiver room. Quentin Johnston is projected to be the WR2 entering the season, but his inconsistency throughout his first three seasons has been worrisome.
Johnston was the Chargers’ first-round pick in 2023 by the former regime. With no contract extension in place, the 2026 season could be Johnston’s final one in Los Angeles, making it one of the biggest years of his career.
As for the rest of the room, there’s a ton of unproven talent with players like Tre’ Harris, Brenen Thompson and Derius Davis to name a few.
Thompson has been one of the Chargers’ standout performers throughout training camp, showing the potential to emerge as the team’s No. 3 wide receiver on the depth chart.
Mike McDaniel has a chance to elevate the Chargers’ wide receiver room into a legitimate strength, despite what they possess on paper.
