Many of the top free agents have already come off the board but there are still some quality players available. If the Los Angeles Rams are looking for help along the defensive line, a six-time Pro Bowler is on the market and looking for his next team.
USA TODAY’s Tyler Dragon picked the best fit for each of the top 20 remaining free agents and he named the Rams as a good landing spot for Calais Campbell.
Campbell spent last season back with the Cardinals and though he’ll be 40 years old when the 2026 season begins, he hasn’t given any indications that he plans to retire. Thus, chasing a ring with a team like the Rams would make sense for the 18-year veteran.
Age is nothing but a number for Campbell. Campbell will be 40 years old at the start of next season, but he hasn’t announced plans to retire. The veteran defensive tackle would be a good supplementary piece on a Super Bowl contender.
He’s played all 17 games in each of the last three seasons, recording between five and 6.5 sacks in all three years. Even at 39 years old, he was highly productive for Arizona last season, notching 6.5 sacks, 16 QB hits and nine tackles for a loss.
The Rams are set with Kobie Turner, Poona Ford and Braden Fiske as their starting defensive line, but Campbell would be an outstanding option off the bench, while also serving as a veteran leader in the locker room.
Jared Verse talked about the Rams defense being overconfident in the NFC title game against the Seahawks so they could certainly use a veteran voice on that side of the ball, which Campbell would bring – beyond just being an impactful defensive lineman.
