Pro Bowler added to long list of 49ers injuries in training camp

The San Francisco 49ers were back on the practice field at their SAP Performance Facility on Saturday, marking two weeks since their veterans have been back in the facility.

While San Francisco has dealt with several injuries early in camp, another key player joined the list on Saturday, as NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco reported that linebacker Luke Gifford isn’t participating in the session due to a hamstring injury.

Gifford joined the 49ers last year after five seasons at Nebraska, four with the Dallas Cowboys and two with the Tennessee Titans. He appeared in 17 games and started nine for San Francisco in 2025, recording 35 tackles, one pass defensed and one fumble recovery while earning Pro Bowl honors as a special teamer for the first time in his career.

The 30-year-old hit the market again this offseason, but the Dolphins retained his services on a two-year, $5.3 million deal.

Linebacker is arguably San Francisco’s deepest position, but Gifford is a strong contributor in the third phase of the game and can step up on defense if needed. With that, the 49ers hope he’s not out long.
