An Oxnard man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison Aug. 17 for drug possession with intent to sell and the illegal possession of guns.
Rodolfo Hernandez, described as a member of the Colonia Chiques street gang, pleaded guilty Sept. 15 in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a machine gun and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to a news release from the FBI.
He was originally charged in 2024 by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles.
Hernandez, known as “Creature,” was swept up in Operation Safe Cities, which targeted repeat criminals for federal prosecution, according to a March 2024 U.S. Department of Justice news release.
He was arrested Feb. 28, 2024, after a stop by Oxnard police officers for a robbery investigation, according to the release. At the time, he was charged with being a felon in possession of a gun, a .38-caliber revolver, and ammunition. Officers also searched his vehicle and found a Mac-11 machine gun.
At the time, Hernandez had five previous felony convictions that included assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance while armed, the 2024 release says.
The investigation into the Oxnard man was conducted by the Ventura County Violent Crime Task Force, which includes the FBI and the Oxnard Police Department.
