An Apple Valley man died and a 15-year-old girl was injured following a crash between a sedan and a pickup truck in Apple Valley on Monday afternoon.
The deadly wreck took place about 4:35 p.m. Jan. 12 at Waalew Road and Corwin Road, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials.
“Deputies received a report of a major traffic collision involving a truck and a sedan,” sheriff’s department spokeswoman Jenny Smith said.
It was determined a 2016 Honda Civic being driven by 27-year-old Keith Morris was making a left turn from westbound Waalew Road to southbound Corwin Road, according to a sheriff’s department statement. A 15-year-old girl was riding as a passenger in the car.
At the same time, a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was headed north on Corwin Road, being driven by a 23-year-old Apple Valley man, officials said.
“The Honda turned south on Corwin Road from the stop sign, and into the Chevy’s Lane of travel,” the statement said. “The vehicles collided in the intersection.”
Both Morris and his young passenger were taken to a hospital for treatment. Morris succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
An update on the girl’s condition was not available.
Authorities said the driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and was cooperative.
An investigation into the cause and circumstances of the collision was ongoing, Smith said. However, intoxicated driving was not initially suspected as a factor.
