After failing to lure in any major stars this offseason, the Warriors front office has received plenty of backlash. Recently, owner Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. appear to be doing a bit of damage control.
Dunleavy Jr. recently spoke to the media, saying, “We’re super aggressive. I mean, if people knew the cold calls I made, offering a lot of stuff for players, I think they’d realize how hard we’re trying.”
Lacob followed up on that statement from his general manager by saying, “We made at least two very big offers in the last six months; let’s put it that way. Between the trade deadline and the summer, at least two. There were multiple draft choices (involved). So it’s not like we wouldn’t move them if we thought it was the right thing to do.”
While some Warriors fans may be content to know that the front office has been evaluating different avenues to improve their roster, at the NBA level, that’s a given. These comments continue what has been a confusing offseason for Golden State fans when learning about the shifting direction of the teams’ front office.
Ultimately, though, it’ll take more than just “trying” for the Warriors to build a contender around former two-time MVP award winner Stephen Curry. Having finished 10th in the Western Conference with a 37-45 record last season, Dunleavy Jr. and Lacob have plenty of work left to do.
