The Chargers are heading into a crucial 2026 season. Much is on the line for the team and a handful of players, as many expect them to reach another level after constant shortcomings in the past several seasons.
Los Angeles has built a formidable squad, particularly when it comes to their pass rush. The Chargers still possess future Hall of Famer Khalil Mack, along with young standouts like Tuli Tuipulotu and rookie Akheem Mesidor.
Mack, Tuipulotu and Mesidor are set to wreak havoc, and that could leave veteran Bud Dupree as the odd man out. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox identified one player from each NFL team who could be available for a trade this preseason, naming Dupree as the Chargers’ candidate.
“A 2015 first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dupree had an 11.5-sack season in 2019 but has never replicated that production. However, he’s been a solid rotational rusher at multiple stops and should bring some late draft compensation in a trade.
“Los Angeles could also save $2.5 million in cap space by trading Dupree.”
Prior to the post-June 1 designation, Dupree was named as a candidate the Chargers could let go of. As things stand a little over a month away from the season, that means the case.
Dupree is not the oldest edge rusher who could potentially make the roster. However, he is far from the same player he once was. The 33-year-old is more of a veteran rotational piece behind the younger, more dynamic pass rushers the Chargers possess.
The Chargers wouldn’t get much in a potential Dupree trade, but his days in Los Angeles could be numbered.
