There were 29,556 votes cast this week in the race for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week poll.
Oak Hills’ Amaya Sigala ended with 41.67% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers.
The softball star received 12,315 votes, beating out 14 other high school athletes from across the High Desert.
To earn a spot on the ballot, Sigala led the Bulldogs to a 9-8 victory over Serrano on April 29 by going 3 for 4 with a RBI and two runs. She ended the week going 1 for 1 with 3 walks, 4 runs and 3 stolen bases as Oak Hills shut out Hesperia 20-0.
In the voting, Sigala beat Riverside Prep’s Cayman Pluma, who received 15.68% at 4,635 total votes.
The nominees were selected based on performances between April 28 to May 3.
Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.
Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week’s games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
