Two athletes are being recognized for their outstanding achievements on the mat and court.
This week, both a Foothill and an Anderson high school athlete are being highlighted. It’s time to meet the two Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week for their accomplishments over the week of Jan. 5-11.
Ben Faria, Foothill
Sport: Wrestling/Football
School: Foothill
Class: Freshman
Team Contributions: Freshman Ben Faria just wrapped up an impressive first trimester at Foothill High School, finishing with a 3.7 GPA. After spending his youth playing football at Central Valley and three years at Shasta Dam Little League, Faria kicked off his high school career as a nose guard on the freshman football team. The 6-foot-5 freshman also competes on the wrestling team, and despite the amount of work Faria puts into athletics, he continues to consistently find the time to focus on academics.
Renna Shriner, Anderson
Sport: Basketball
School: Anderson
Class: Senior
Team Contributions: Anderson forward Renna Shriner leads the entire Northern Section in rebounding with 14.5 rebounds per game. She’s also the only player in the NSCIF to have more than 200 rebounds so far this season. Shriner notched her 14th double-double of the season last week with a 17-point, 13-rebound performance against Live Oak on Jan. 8. Shriner also hasn’t had a game with under 10 rebounds so far this season.
