Matthew Stafford could pass these NFL milestones in 2025

Matthew Stafford’s illustrious NFL career could tack on some more personal accomplishments this season.

The Los Angeles Rams quarterback ranks 10th on the NFL career list in passing yards (59,809) and passing touchdowns (377). He could move up those rankings even further if he and the Rams have another good season.

The only things standing in his way are injuries (either to himself or his supporting case) and, oddly enough, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who sits ahead of Stafford in both categories.

Stafford needs 1,553 yards to pass Hall of Famer Dan Marino for ninth all-time. That seems likely if Stafford can play at least 10 games.

But, Stafford could rise even further if he plays more this season: He’s averaged 4,054 yards in the 12 seasons he’s played at least 15 games since 2021. If that happens, he can reach as high as sixth, Philip Rivers, unless Rodgers also passes Rivers and Stafford can’t catch Rodgers.

Here’s how the current top-10 in all-time passing yards shakes out heading into 2025:

Stafford can also move up the all-time passing touchdowns list. He currently needs just four to move up to No. 9 ahead of Matt Ryan and 41 touchdowns to move into No. 8 ahead of Ben Roethlisberger.

The former is more likely, as Stafford has only thrown for 41 touchdowns twice in his career (2011 with the Detroit Lions and 2021 with the Rams). Considering Stafford averages 27 per season, he should fall somewhere in the middle of the Ryan and Roethlisberger to finish ninth going into the 2026 offseason.

Here’s the current all-time passing touchdowns top-10 list:

Stafford and the Rams likely aren’t thinking about personal accolades, but a good season means he’ll reach these new milestones. It helps, too, that the Rams added Davante Adams to the offense. He is also looking to move up some all-time NFL lists this year.
