A man died Saturday after he was hit by a pick-up truck while trying to cross an Interstate 10 on-ramp on foot in north Indio, according to California Highway Patrol.
CHP Officer David Torres said the crash happened just after noon on Sept. 27 on the westbound I-10 onramp west of Monroe Street. The man was walking southbound across the onramp when he was hit by a GMC Sierra turning onto the onramp from Monroe Street. The pedestrian died at the scene after being hit by the left front portion of the pickup.
The Riverside County Coroner identified the man who died as 62-year-old John Keogh on Sept. 28.
Torres said officers are still determining why the truck hit the pedestrian and did not say if the driver will be arrested.
The man is the second person to die after being hit while on foot in the Coachella Valley in less than 24 hours. On Friday night, a New York man died after he was hit while trying to cross Indian Canyon Drive in a crosswalk in Palm Springs.
