A man has been found guilty of murder for the 2024 shooting of another man inside the Victorville Galleria shopping center.
Harold Jerome Phillips Jr., 36, of Victorville was convicted by a jury Tuesday, May 12, in the Victorville branch of San Bernardino County Superior Court, records show.
In addition to murder, he was also found guilty of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, as well as special allegations of personally using a gun and inflicting great bodily injury.
The Oct. 6, 2024 shooting claimed the life of 51-year-old Guy Taylor of Victorville, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials.
It took place about 3:30 p.m. at the shopping center at 12560 Palmdale Road, sheriff’s department spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez said at the time. Taylor died from his wounds at the scene.
Homicide detectives determined the shooting stemmed from a “physical altercation” between the two men and identified Phillips as a suspect, sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.
A warrant was issued, and investigators ultimately arrested Phillips in San Jose just over two weeks later on Oct. 22, by the U.S. Marshals Service.
He was held without bail prior to the month-long trial, which began on April 13.
Details regarding a motive in the shooting were not available Tuesday.
Phillips was scheduled to return to court for sentencing on July 10.
