Little Bar in Palm Desert will continue to operate its popular outdoor dining deck, a couple weeks after new city requirements threatened to force it down.
During its June 11 meeting, the city council once again extended a program that allows restaurants to have outdoor dining structures on public property. Little Bar participates in this program for its outdoor dining space along Highway 111.
Skip Paige, Little Bar’s owner, said at the council’s meeting that the city informed him in late 2025 that his deck wasn’t built with the approved barriers and his landlord must take legal liability for it based on updated city regulations. He had until June 30 to comply, but his landlord had declined to take responsibility for the structure.
But Paige said he and the city have reached an agreement. On Thursday, June 25, the Little Bar owner shared on Facebook that the deck was approved for another year. He thanked the hundreds of people who spoke up on behalf of the bar, saying the extension would not have happened without their help.
“The Big Deck has always been more than just extra seating,” Paige said. “It’s become part of Little Bar’s identity — a place where friends gather, birthdays are celebrated, sunsets are shared, and the Palm Desert community comes together.”
