Last week, head coach Lincoln Riley issued a message to USC fans ahead of the Trojans’ Big Ten home opener vs. Michigan State. “We all have our role,” Riley said. “Whatever the fans’ expectation level is for us to play, we need the same thing in the stadium.”
It seems as though Riley was pleased with what he saw from the fanbase. Following the game, the Trojans’ head coach took the time to thank USC fans for the atmosphere at the Coliseum Saturday night.
“That’s what the damn Coliseum has got to be like, man,” Riley said. “And it’s got to be frickin better when we get back in a couple weeks.”
The announced attendance for USC vs. Michigan State was 67,614. While the largest crowd of the season so far for the Trojans (and exponentially higher than what the school across town draws), that number is still nearly 10,000 below the Coliseum’s capacity. In addition, in typical Los Angeles fashion, many fans arrived late and/or left early.
