A Los Angeles County woman died after she was struck by two big rigs along the 15 Freeway between Victorville and Barstow earlier this week, officials said.
The fatal collision took place about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, in the northbound lanes of the freeway, just north of Hodge Road, in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County between Victorville and Barstow, according to the California Highway Patrol.
“Preliminary investigation indicates a 40-year-old female pedestrian from Bellflower, California, was in the northbound lanes of Interstate 15, north of Hodge Road,” the CHP said in a written statement. “For reasons still under investigation, the female pedestrian was struck by two tractor-trailer combination vehicles.”
Rachel Alailima died at the scene, according to San Bernardino County coroner’s records. An official manner of death was yet to be determined.
The investigation remained ongoing, however, DUI was not initially suspected, offiicals said.
“The CHP extends its condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic crash,” according to the statement. “We remind motorists to remain alert, scan the roadway ahead, and always be prepared for unexpectedhazards.”
All northbound traffic lanes were shut down for about four hours due to the investigation.
