It’s election season, and the Ventura County Star would like to invite the public to join us May 12 for a 2026 Voter Guide event with nonpartisan news site CalMatters.
This casual, free gathering is planned for 6 p.m., May 12 at Institution Ales, 3841 Mission Oaks Blvd., Camarillo. Dan Hu, CalMatters’ director of partnerships, will emcee and Tony Biasotti, Star investigative reporter, will present information about key local races.
Hu will help breakdown, analyze and answer questions about this year’s primary election in a conversation centered around CalMatters’ latest edition of its Voter Guide. The event will aim to answer questions about the election like where do the governor candidates stand on the issues and what does the insurance commissioner do?
The 2026 Voter Guide is offered in English and Spanish and contains the following:
The nonprofit news organization CalMatters covers policy in California and the issues affecting Californians. Its mission is to improve California’s democracy by making its government more transparent and accountable and giving Californians the information they need to understand and engage with that government.
Like CalMatters, The Star has been working on its own election coverage. Avid readers, no doubt, already started to consume our coverage of local races. In recent days, we’ve rolled out a series of brief profiles about the many candidates who have put their hats into the ring. Visit vcstar.com/news/elections to find out more.
The Star is always looking for creative ways to bring news and information to readers and the public writ large. A partnership with CalMatters that promotes the electorate’s understanding of local and state issues is just another way to share news with you in person.
We hope you’ll join us May 12. Please be sure to mention Ventura County Star event at the register.
